NutriYou
NutriYou is a project aimed at teaching teenagers in South Africa about nutrition. The goal was to provide information in a safe and informative way to encourage healthy eating and lifestyle choices.

Research informed me that access to smartphones is limited in the country so the app had to be accessible to this population while being attractive to them as well as for higher socioeconomic users
Low fidelity prototypes were built based on paper and digital wireframes to prepare for the initial unmoderated usability studies.
Initial design iterations began:
User testing revealed that we needed to include images that everyone would be able to recognise as well as offering language options. Some users inquired about recipes so we added that too as well as a page of definitions users could refer back to.
Results from testing proved the hypothesis of needed to keep design simple.

It’s tricky to find a balance between chic and visually exciting design and practical accessible design for those who require.
Going forward regular usability tests will take place to ensure all updated features are successful and user friendly. Meal trackers have been considered but to ensure this is used healthily, it needs some serious thought.
